eHam Product Reviews

As described in Page 1 of this report, NA4M and N2MG initially posted and misrepresented a customer-service rant from a former SD user as a legitimate product review. Eventually, they relented and "moved" the post to eHam's Company Reviews forums. I thought that would be the end of it - I was wrong.

Here's a reminder of the header of ON3JMV's post in eHam's product review section - the product being "SD by EI5DI".

The Subject/Header/Title/Thread of ON3JMV's post, in French, is "Plus d'actualite, SAV nul !"

I'll refer to this as the title. Now, have a look at what NA4M, or someone acting on his behalf, did when "moving" the post to Company Reviews.

The title has changed to "Big problems with customer service", arbitrarily and maliciously lifted from the body of ON3JMV's post. The former title "Plus d'actualite, SAV nul !" has been moved to the body of the post.

Naturally, I wasn't going to put up with abuse like that. Here is further email correspondence with NA4M and N2MG in their capacities as eHam officials. The emails are recorded in the sequence I read them and/or I sent them.

    Phil,

In moving ON3JMV's post to the Company Reviews Forum, you, or someone acting on your behalf, has edited the header on the post. You had no right to do that - it shows a lack of integrity which, considering your recent track record, is really not all that surprising.

In unilaterally editing the header, you have not even had the sense to use a direct translation of the original French words. You have changed it to suit your own agenda. That is unprofessional and, once again, indicative of malicious intent. I demand you reinstate the original header immediately.

I didn't do the move but I imagine it was done with simple cut and paste:

In any case as spelled out in the review guide lines:

      remove reviews and/or products for
any reason at any time without

    Phil,

It appears that you neither understood my previous email nor have you looked at the post - the one that someone else "moved". And you, eHam's Product Reviews Manager, still think this is of no concern of yours.

Translations are not normally done with "simple cut and paste". Perhaps you're new to this concept?

eHam reserves the right to edit or
      remove reviews and/or products for
any reason at any time without
      prior notice.

I accept that. However, you stated that "The eHam product review by ON3JMV has been moved from eHams Product Reviews to the eHam Forum "Company Reviews"." Whether by design or omission, you did not say that, in the move, the post header had been changed from "Plus d'actualite, SAV nul !" to "SD by EI5DI - Big problems with customer service". Which of these would you suggest might appear more emotive to the typical eHam reader?

Further, the original product review appeared under the topic "SD by EI5DI". It now appears, in eHam's Company Reviews forum, under the topic "SD by EI5DI - Big problems with customer service".

What is your explanation for the gratuitous addition of "Big problems with customer service" to this topic?

This is unacceptable. Your lack of responsibility and/or your incompetence and/or your malicious intent is clear for all to see.

Should you not reply fully to the issues I have raised, or should you not reply at all, appropriate inferences will be drawn. Please note that I reserve the right to publish all our correspondence. This will include your reply, or will report the fact that you did not reply.

I edited the subject while moving it from one venue to another. Without an edit of the subject, the forum thread would be unidentifiable as one about the SD software/company. The words used were those of the OP (or at least the translation of them) as was posted within the review.

The original post was in a dedicated section of the Product reviews for the SD software (so it needed no special identifier).

It had a title, in French, of: Plus d'actualite, SAV nul ! Which translates (probably roughly) to "More news, customer service sucks"

I will restore that subject per Paul's request.

Not true - the forum thread should have been "SD by EI5DI", just as it was in Product Reviews.

      > The words used were those of the OP (or at

Not true - it shows you don't know French. Where ON3JMV uses the English words "Big problems with customer service", his corresponding French words are "Gros soucis avec le service apres vente" - not exactly the same as "Plus d'actualite, SAV nul !", ON3JMV's header on his post to the SD by EI5DI thread in your Product Reviews.

I suggest you get it fixed now, and I recommend you add a public apology as, to date, your mistaken header "Big problems with customer service" has been read 183 times - according to eHam's own statistics.

Well, N2MG undertook to "restore the subject". Here's a reminder of the story so far

When "moved" to Company Reviews, this became

and here's what he restored it to - again in Company Reviews

The subject was "Plus d'actualite, SAV nul !" and now it is has the addition - "More news, customer service sucks" - a phrase, and words, that appeared nowhere in the original post. The worthy eHam officers claim this is a translation, but I say the English version is somewhat more loaded that the French version.

I have a suggestion for them. It is "Va te faire foutre". Doesn't sound too bad until you see what a machine translation into English suggests. Which would they say was more insulting to the average eHam reader?

Of course, NA4M and N2MG have the right of reply - subject only to my usual terms and conditions

EI5DI reserves the right to edit, ignore or
remove correspondence for any reason at
    any time without prior notice.

One of the problems with eHam.net is that its self-appointed officers are answerable to no one. The other problem is that some of them, to include NA4M and N2MG, don't like to be reminded of eHam's own rules when they deviate from them.
